The Red Feather Warriors are a small group of Native Americans and Veterans who take it upon ourselves to preserve the integrity of pre-historic aboriginal sites and protect the true history and culture of Native peoples of our region.
Our mission statement follows:
1. The Red Feather Warrior Society of Eastern Tennessee will use all means to prevent or stop the rampant desecration of pre-historic Native sites located on the Holston River system, Watauga and Clinch basins.
A. "All Means" consists of staking out sites that are known favorites of "pot-hunters", collecting names and tag numbers of offenders, photographing or videotaping desecrations and if necessary, going to court to testify against desecrators.
B. Warriors will make regular visits to sites where the bones of ancient peoples are buried to insure that no pot-hunting and grave robbing is taking place.
C. The reburial of human remains in accordance with the customs of our people.
2. Red Feather Warriors will regularly visit area business and flea markets to insure that the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 is not being violated by the dishonest.
A. Offenders are notified of violation and given a copy of this federal law. If the offender persists, Warriors will use all means to see that the repeat offender is prosecuted in Federal Court.
3. Red Feather warriors will become political lobbyists if necessary, to fight against legislation which is not in the best interest of our people.
A. Warriors will use the forum of public opinion , newspapers, radio, television or any means to advise the general public should the need arise.
B. Warriors will be advocates for true Native American culture and history ,doing all that is required to preserve it.
IF you are 18 or over, reside in N.E. Tennessee or SW Virginia, either a veteran of the US Military or an enrolled Native American, we invite you to join us. You must be willing to attend meetings four times a year and carry out assigned duties at least twice a year.
